Scam With Your Friends Mods & Steam Workshop

Understand Workshop callers, create or edit a personality, check voice imports, and know what saving a custom caller uploads.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Steam lists Workshop support and custom personalities made with JSON and voice files. Official updates distinguish Character Creator for a new caller from Daily Callers for editing an existing one.

What can you customize?

For Scam With Your Friends, the documented modding features center on custom fictional callers. The official Steam listing includes Steam Workshop support, JSON personalities and WAV voice files. These change the caller content; they do not replace the daily-quota loop or the need for the game’s AI services.

JSON personality
Defines a custom personality. The checked official sources do not publish a complete field schema.
Voice recording
WAV is named by Steam; later updates also discuss MP3 imports. A file extension alone does not establish a supported recording format or size.
Character Creator
The editor for creating a new caller, as described in Hotfix 2.
Daily Callers
The place named in the same notes for editing existing callers and managing the caller pool.
Steam Workshop
Steam’s community-content integration. The game’s privacy policy also explains which custom-caller data is uploaded.

Find and add Workshop callers

Start from Scam With Your Friends, Steam App ID 4954910, in your library or on its official store page. Open Workshop through that game’s Steam interface so you stay with the correct title.

  1. Check the item’s game, description and any version requirements before adding it.
  2. If Steam offers Subscribe for the item, use that item’s subscription control and allow Steam to finish its downloads.
  3. Return to the updated game and check Daily Callers for the content you intend to use.
  4. In multiplayer, check the host’s caller settings if a community caller cannot be added to the queue. The 0.1.78 notes specifically describe host restrictions on those additions.
  5. Try a short conversation before relying on a custom caller for a full shift. If speech is failing, separate recognition, AI replies and voice output using the AI service overview.

This is a source-based checklist combining Steam’s subscription controls with the editors named in the game’s notes. We have not verified a complete subscription-to-gameplay sequence in a hands-on session. Public Workshop browsing can also return Steam’s general Workshop directory; in that case, use the game’s own Steam client entry rather than treating the directory as this game’s caller list.

Create or edit a caller

Hotfix 2 distinguishes two paths: Character Creator opens into a new caller, while existing callers are edited through Daily Callers. The separate older Localize Voice buttons were removed. An older video that uses those controls may therefore show a different interface.

Use the editor’s current fields for the personality, artwork and voice you want to add. Before saving, read the upload behavior below: unlisted does not mean the caller stays only on your computer.

Later updates refine the editors. Version 0.1.73 fixes duplicate Daily Callers entries; 0.1.78 adds mirror drawing and erasing to Character Creator. In 0.1.83, newly added default callers receive a NEW badge. Changing an existing caller’s portrait or voice does not mark that caller as new, so the badge is not a reliable test of whether an edit was saved.

JSON and voice imports

Steam identifies JSON as the personality format and WAV as a voice-cloning input. The patch notes additionally mention MP3 import fixes. They do not specify a full JSON template, import folder, sample-rate requirement or maximum file size, so this guide does not supply guessed values.

For a failed voice import, note the file format and installed version first. Version 0.1.73 addresses a Windows crash during WAV or MP3 import. Version 0.1.78 improves loading of supported extended WAV files and valid MP3 recordings with extra audio padding. Those fixes identify known cases; they do not guarantee that any recording will import successfully.

If a caller loads but does not speak, check whether a text reply appears. Visible reply text points to voice playback; no reply points earlier in the chain. Use AI troubleshooting for that distinction rather than rebuilding the personality immediately.

If an issue persists on the current build, include the exact message and the smallest steps that reproduce it in an official bug report. For a problem with the game desktop rather than a caller, start with desktop apps.

What saving a caller uploads

The publisher’s privacy policy says saving a custom caller syncs its description, artwork and custom voice sample through Steam Workshop. Disabling public listing makes that upload unlisted; it does not prevent the upload. Removing the local caller does not automatically remove its Workshop item.

Choose the description, artwork and recording with that upload behavior in mind. If your goal is to manage an already uploaded item, check it in Steam as well as in the local caller list. Our privacy guide covers the separate handling of call recordings and transcripts.
