Scam With Your Friends Saves, Steam Cloud & Reset
Check 0.1.83 Cloud save scope, local device settings, automatic v82 imports, missing progress and the consequences of resetting.
Update 0.1.83 adds Steam Cloud for progress, cosmetics, prestige, checkpoints and permanent app purchases. Device settings and personal API keys stay local. RESET SAVE deliberately erases progress; it is not a sync repair.
Does Scam With Your Friends have Steam Cloud saves?
Yes, from update 0.1.83. The official announcement adds Steam Cloud for progress, cosmetics, prestige, checkpoints and permanent app purchases. It also introduces a save system with backups and safer writes. Existing v82 settings, purchases and checkpoints are imported automatically.
If an older guide says progress is local only, check its date against this update. A save backup, a checkpoint and a call recording serve different purposes; finding a video file does not establish that your game progress is backed up.
What syncs, and what stays on this PC?
| Data | Documented behavior | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Progress, prestige and checkpoints | Included in Steam Cloud saves. | Compare these after changing computers; use the same Steam account. |
| Cosmetics and permanent app purchases | Included in Steam Cloud saves. Permanent app ownership also received saving fixes. | Check ownership before buying the same permanent app again. |
| Microphone, language and controls | Stay local to each computer. | Choose the input device and speech language again on a second PC. |
| Graphics and volumes | Stay local to each computer. | Check display and output settings on the new machine. |
| Personal API keys | Stay local to each computer. | Check the selected service and key on that PC if a key warning appears. |
| Call videos and transcripts | Handled separately in the game privacy policy; they are not listed in the announced Cloud save scope. | Use the recording controls and local recording folder, rather than treating Cloud progress as a video archive. |
The patch also improves saving of desktop layouts, browser shortcuts and clicker progress. It does not individually identify those three items as cross-computer Cloud data. Check them in the destination session before relying on an identical desktop layout.
Before switching computers
This is a checking order for the documented Cloud feature:
- Update both installations. Confirm each is on 0.1.83 or a later build. An older installation may not have the same save behavior.
- Record a reference point. Note your progress, checkpoint, prestige and permanent app ownership before leaving the original PC.
- Quit normally and check Steam. Let Steam finish syncing before launching on the other computer. If Steam reports a sync error or conflict, read that notice before continuing.
- Compare on the second PC. Use the same Steam account and compare the reference point before making new progress.
- Recheck local setup. Select the microphone, language, audio output and any personal service key on that machine. Missing device settings alone do not prove a Cloud save failed.
If the new PC has your progress but speech no longer works, start with microphone settings. For an optional key warning, use AI connection checks.
Progress or purchases appear to be missing
Check the game version, Steam account and Steam’s sync status first. Compare what is missing: progression, a permanent app, a desktop layout or only a device setting. These categories have different documented save behavior.
The update says v82 imports are automatic. It does not publish a manual import button, exact progress-save filename or a guaranteed backup-restoration sequence. If the import or sync still fails, keep the affected installations intact and report the old and new versions, computers involved, sync message, and the last known correct progress. Include whether the original computer still shows the expected state.
Do not use RESET SAVE to repair a sync problem. A reset deliberately removes progress. The recording folder described in the privacy guide is not a documented progress-save location.
What does RESET SAVE delete?
Update 0.1.83 adds a confirmed RESET SAVE action in settings. The documented result is that it erases progress, cosmetics and permanent app purchases, returns to the main menu, and keeps device settings.
Use it only when you intend to start over and accept losing those items. Keeping microphone or graphics settings after a reset is expected. The announcement does not describe reset as a way to delete call recordings, remove Workshop uploads or recover a previous checkpoint; manage those separately.
Achievements and recordings are separate
The same update adds 26 Steam achievements. Achievement counters persist between sessions, and earned achievements stay queued if Steam cannot confirm them immediately. A delayed Steam confirmation is therefore a different symptom from missing saved progress. The announcement does not say that resetting a save removes Steam achievements.
